“鼎”是青铜器中的主要食器，祭祀和宴会时放盛黍、稷、稻、梁等作物，“鼎”常作为一种器物在祭祀当中经常使用赋予了它一种神圣感，成为了神物。传言，拥有了鼎，便拥有了天下。

“鼎”最早出现在春秋时期，后来逐渐演变出盖，常为三足与四足，有时盖也能反过来使用。在古代奴棣社会等级制度里“鼎”它被当作“明尊卑，别上下”的权力标志，在古代奴棣社会如非王亲国戚是不能私自拥有与使用，此青铜“鼎”的盖顶、缘及器肩腹均饰半卷体夔龙纹饰地，纹饰精美，神态安祥，神韵生动，器盖取下反转，可独做盛器，肩、腹中嵌一圈扭绳纹，造型气势恢宏，外侧上中下部分饰有夔龙纹，纹路清晰，线条流畅，对称夔龙纹饰，增添了整体的艺术美。为西周时期的典型器。

此青铜“鼎”以金鼎文字篆刻的铭文共二十四字，盖内篆刻有金鼎文十二字铭文另“鼎”腹部也篆刻有金鼎文十二字铭文，上下铭文同译，西周是中国青铜器的鼎盛时期，此时期制作的青铜器，具有很高的艺术收藏价值。鼎，是一种礼器，周代的国君或王公大臣在重大庆典或接受赏赐时都要铸鼎，以旌表功绩，记载盛况，鼎逐渐成为了皇权称霸的代名词。

此件青铜鼎的器形敦厚，铸造工艺精湛，厚重感强，器形规整端庄，沉静肃穆，产生一种至高无上，尊贵凛然之气魄。腹部装饰一周环带状夔龙纹，精简干练，古拙朴雅。整体呈暗褐色，随处可见绿色锈迹，远看彷佛闪耀着绿色光芒，年代久远，自然天成。整器浑厚典庄，纹饰瑰异，气韵不凡。
