江寒汀(1903-1963)，江苏常熟虞山镇人。原名荻、庚元，笔名江鸿，石溪，号寒汀居士，“海山四大花旦”之一。
此幅作品母鸡的形态表现生动形象，保护鸡蛋的眼神尤为深刻。题材、构图、造型直接从生活对象出发，以朴实的艺术语言表现对象的现实性和典型性，呈现普通生活中所流露出的情味，以涵容大自然内在的生命律动。
