釉里红，瓷器釉下彩装饰手法之一，烧于元代景德镇。是将含有金属铜元素为呈色剂的彩料按所需图案纹样绘制，再罩以一层无色透明釉，入窑在1300℃左右的高温一次烧成。此尊观音之形像从造像的坐姿、净瓶等法器判断，本品整躯造型完美，制作精细，造型端庄，比例匀称，体态优美，具有明显元代造像特征。水月观音，又称水吉祥观音，或水吉祥菩萨。这是观世音一心观水相的应化身，其形像有多种。其一改佛教造像直立或打坐的成规，无拘无束，自由自在，故又称“自在观音”。诚如本品，其姿态出色地突现了观音流畅的线条和优美的身段。本品不仅造型特别，而且是釉里红釉色，工艺极其困难，非常少见而且底部釉色更是难得一见的影青色，机具收藏价值和市场价值。
