"宝月居"款为明代宣德年间的私款,一般为官宦人家私自铸造的，所以制造相当精致，用料上乘，做工也非常精细。铜色斑斓，无锈蚀斑，可见含铜量极高。按黄铜中加锌10-20则似黄金，低于百分之十者，乃淡紫红色。此炉铜质精纯，抚之若处子肌肤，刻款精致高雅，而且不惜工本，在铜器上鎏金，由此可见此物弥足珍贵。而笔筒主题饰为嫦娥奔月，是象征着当时人们对美好的追求，故人们画作吉祥图画，以寄望焉。
